Welcome to the Pages of

Miklagard

We are a group dedicated to portraying the Early Middle Ages, focusing on Scandinavia around the turn of the first millennium. We base our portrayal on historical sources and archaeological finds, while being aware of the challenges of achieving full authenticity — a goal we strive to meet as best we can with the means available to us.

Our interests range from sword fighting and free combat to experiments with medieval reconstructions and techniques.

Of course, enjoying time with friends in a medieval atmosphere also plays an important role.

Authentic portrayal or rather reenactism?

Reenactism: This term refers to practices and resulting objects that are used at markets and in camps without historical documentation. They are based on considerations of how things might have been. Practical reasons and convenience are also motivations for their creation.

Such items can also be found in our camp, which in turn calls the claim of an authentic portrayal into question.

The number of tents (especially considering the effort and cost of such an amount of fabric) and the abundance of light sources likely did not exist in this way back then.
